Preventative Maintenance Care Your Vehicle Needs in Anchorage, AK
The most important thing you can do to extend the life of your vehicle is performing preventative maintenance. Preventative maintenance allows you to identify small issues your vehicle has before they escalate into bigger problems. Don’t ignore preventive maintenance. The basics, like changing your oil, checking your tire pressure and getting scheduled inspections and work done, are like getting regular checkups at the doctor. Auto care preventative maintenance includes regular services, inspections, and repairs that prevent potential problems, such as lubrication, adjustments, cleaning, testing, and replacement of worn parts.

• Oil and filter changes: Oil should be changed every 3,00 miles or as specified in your owner’s manual. Your vehicle needs regular oil and filter changes to keep the engine and other components properly lubricated. During an oil change, your car gets clean oil and a clean filter so it can keep doing this very important job!

• Fluids and belt inspection: Check fluids including coolant, wiper fluids, power steering, transmission fluid.  Timing belts are replaced every 60,000 miles or so, and your serpentine belt replaced every 40,000 miles. Your owner’s manual will offer specifics for your type of vehicle.

• Clean and test your battery: A dead battery will have you stranded on the road. Keep your battery running stronger and longer with routine battery terminal cleaning and doing a battery test will let you know if your battery is good or if it is nearing death.

• Get your tires rotated and balanced and your alignment checked: It is important to do to balance and align your tires to make sure your tires wear evenly, and your car drives smoothly and safely. Your owner’s manual should provide a specific alignment and rotation schedule for your vehicle.

• Change your spark plugs. If your spark plugs are worn out or covered in buildup, your engine isn’t working efficiently. follow your manual’s recommendation and get them changed regularly. For most standard spark plugs and vehicles, that’s around 30,000 miles.

These are just a few things that every vehicle needs. We can’t stress enough the importance of checking your owner’s manual for anything specific to your vehicle. Preventative maintenance is as simple as getting the right service at the right time. This helps catch and prevent problems as early as possible. Start with a thorough vehicle inspection to find out exactly what kind of attention your car needs. Auto care preventative maintenance can save you money and keep you safe on the road.
