Our state is so gorgeous (and so big!)…there’s so much to do and so many places to see here. How much travel have you done here in Alaska?
Denali Park Road is 92 miles long and runs from the park entrance to Kantishna. Since private vehicles are forbidden after Mile 15, you’ll need to take a park shuttle bus or a tour bus for this excursion. Alon g this east-west park road, you’ll cross four high mountain passes and are likely to see bears, eagles, moose and all kinds of other wildlife amid this stupendous scenery.
Eklutna Lake Scenic Drive is a 22 mile drive that takes you to Chugach State Park, with Eklutna River and the glacial Eklutna Lake along the way. It’s less than an hour’s drive from Anchorage, but it takes you well away from Alaska’s towns and cities to get a glimpse of our state’s wild side.
Twin Peaks Trail quickly gains elevation through alpine meadows, giving you spectacular views of Goat Rock and Twin Peaks. Keep an eye out for Dall sheep above the timberline…thanks to a crushed rock surface.
You can take Eklutna Lake Road to see Eklutna Village, the oldest continuously inhabited Athabaskan Indian settlement in the state. While the settlement dates back to 1650, Russian Orthodox missionaries came in the early 1800s and built St. Nicholas Church, the oldest standing building in the Anchorage area.
